Zeil am Main - half-timbered buildings, cheerfulness, Franconian wine

Not far from the World Heritage city of Bamberg, the picturesque half-timbered town of Zeil a.Main lies in a
charming location in the Main Valley at the foot of the Haßberge. (5,600 EW, 312 m above sea level, first
mentioned in 1018) At the intersection of wine and beer Franconia, there is a lot to discover and enjoy, both culinary and cultural.
The historic old town enchants with its artistic half-timbered architecture on the unique market square and in
the winding alleys and streets. The remains of the city wall and the mighty city tower made of local sandstone bear witness to a rich and
eventful history. Since 2011, this has been part of the “Zeiler Hexenturm” documentation center with exhibition
rooms on the witch hunts in the Thirty Years' War. On the Kapellenberg rises at 366 meters above sea level. N. the “Zeiler Käppele”, a traditional pilgrimage
church. From there you have a wonderful view of the city and the Main Valley. The subsequent wine hiking trail “Abt-Degen-Steig” leads through sunny vineyards on the southern slopes of
the Haßberge. The varied landscape between Haßbergen and Steigerwald offers numerous well-developed hiking and
cycling paths. In cozy restaurants, wineries and beer gardens you can enjoy Franconian cuisine, excellent
local wines or try beer specialties from the local traditional brewery.
