Seifhennersdorf

.

Welcome to Seifhennersdorf!

A place that stretches over 5 km in the valleys of Mandau and Leutersdorfer Wasser.
The place emerged in the 13th century as a colonist village. The settlers were recruited primarily from Franconia on
behalf of the Bohemian king. Very soon the farming village developed into a weaving village and was bought by
Zittau as a council village. In the turmoil of the Thirty Years' War, Upper Lusatia and with it Seifhennersdorf came
to Saxony. At the end of the 18th century, the textile industry reached its peak with over 700 handlooms.
After 1850, the rapid development of the textile industry changed the place. In the 20th century this included
piano construction, car accessories and technical springs. After 1990, this developed into a global piano
manufacturer, a leading parachute production company, the production of aviation textiles and a group of
medium-sized companies in mechanical engineering and services.
The emergence of Seifhennersdorf from a Waldhufendorf can still be experienced in the historic districts.
Here we experience the Umgebindehaus as a simple weaver's house, occasionally also as a stately factor house
and of course also as a farm. The ensemble of church, town hall and memorial in the city center is impressive.
