“Half-timbered town with a twist”

Eppingen (pop. 22,500, 176m above sea level) is particularly known for its historic half-timbered buildings.
Around the Pfeiffer Tower, the oldest architectural monument, there are 120 magnificently restored half-timbered
houses from the city's heyday, almost all of which have now been uncovered. The old town forms the core of
Eppingen, which has now grown far beyond the former city wall. The closely packed rows of Alemannic and
Franconian houses on St. Petersgasse, Metzgergasse and the Altstadtbogen evoke the romanticism of the
medieval imperial city. The “Baumannsche Haus”, built in 1582, is known far beyond the country’s borders.
The “Old University” is a pride of the city. The magnificent building houses the city and half-timbered museum,
which brings local history and the history of wooden construction to life on over 800 square meters of exhibition.
The “Old Town Church” is home to a work of art of the highest order with its wall paintings from 1320. Historical parades, old town festivals, organ concerts, puppet shows and exhibitions enliven the medieval imperial
city.
