Alsfeld - a romantic half-timbered town that has retained its medieval character.
Alsfeld became famous far beyond Hesse because of its historic old town. In 1975, Alsfeld received an award for the
successful renovation and preservation of its buildings, which are up to 700 years old, and became a European
model city for monument protection.
The picturesque, spacious market square with the town hall (1512 – 16), which is one of the most beautiful Gothic
half-timbered buildings in Germany, is of rare beauty.
In the medieval city center you will find many interesting half-timbered houses, simple civic buildings as well as
monumental urban buildings, located on narrow, winding streets and small and larger romantic squares.
Its traditions and festivals make a visit to Alsfeld something special.
