Dear Guests,
we warmly welcome and invite you to experience the cities along the German Half-Timbered House Road, which is around 3,900 kilometers long.
The popular holiday and cultural route, launched in 1990, stretches from the Elbe in the north over Upper Lusatia in eastern Saxony to Lake Constance in the south, with eight regional routes through the federal states of Lower Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Saxony, Hesse and Rhineland-Palatinate, Thuringia, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg.
Under the motto “Half-timbered buildings connect”, more than 100 half-timbered towns have now come together to present their impressive historic old town centers to you. The German Half-Timbered House Road connects idyllic half-timbered towns, charming landscapes, historical locations, lovingly restored monuments and the people who live and work there. Spas and festival venues alternate with nature parks and romantic places. As varied as the entertainment program in our half-timbered towns is the culinary offerings are just as varied.
Relaxing in the romantic half-timbered ambience, enjoying regional products, strolling through small streets,
having fun with childrens and adventure tours, hiking and cycling along the route - the German Half-Timbered
House Road has something in store for everyone.
Numerous events, festivals and markets offer visitors variety and stimulation all year round.
Whether you travel by car, bike, train or motorhome - discover old craftsmanship and lively traditional
customs on the trail of the past.
Germany's oldest northernmost vineyard, the largest Christmas candle in the world and the only
ivory museum of Germany, the cradle of the German damask and terry cloth industry and the 50th
parallel are located on the German Half-Timbered House Road.
Our member cities look forward to your visit!
