Alfeld is located halfway between Hanover and Göttingen at the foot of the Seven Mountains in the scenic Leine
Valley. The city has around 19,200 inhabitants.
Alfeld can look back on over 750 years of history.
Between 1221 and 1258 Alfeld received city rights.
It was primarily the trade in hops, beer and linen that created the city's wealth in the Middle Ages and early
modern times. The economic heyday in the 15th and 16th centuries can still be seen today in impressive buildings
such as the Weser Renaissance town hall and the Latin school.
Also worth seeing is the Fagus Factory, built by Walter Gropius and declared a World Heritage Site in 2011.
The city's landscape is very varied.
Well-developed and signposted paths invite you to discover the beauty of the Leinebergland on foot or by bike.
Alfeld is easy to reach thanks to its convenient location on federal highway 3 and on the north-south railway line
(IC stop).
For weekend guests and vacationers, the city is an ideal starting point for excursions into the surrounding areas
from Hanover to Göttingen, from the Weser to the Harz.
