Mittelherwigsdorf - northwest of Zittau

The over 700-year-old town of Mittelherwigsdorf, northwest of Zittau, is shaped like a horseshoe.
The Mandau, the Landwasser and the Rietschebach form the shape, on whose partly gorge-like slopes there are
many lovingly renovated houses, especially half-timbered houses. Stately farms high up form the transition to the open countryside. A dirt road along the Feldraine reveals a fantastic
view of the Zittau Mountains. The approximately 7.5 km long town can be walked through on several roads. At the foot of the Scheibeberg, at the
sports center, an approximately one kilometer long barefoot path invites you to explore the greenery.
There is a public football field near the school. Diagonally opposite in the “town center” is the church of
Mittelherwigsdorf, which is worth seeing. There is an information board at the beautiful municipal office with a
small park and the wooden town guard. If you walk or drive along the dirt road mentioned above in the direction of Oberseifersdorf, you will reach a seating
area with a panoramic board at the end of the town. If you turn towards Oderwitz beforehand, the tufts of sand
invite you to take a short break. The children will find a small playground here. The field path is also signposted as
a cycle path. It connects the Rübezahl, D4, Umgebindehaus and Neuer Kamm cycle paths with the Oder-Neiße
cycle path. It leads through the districts of Oberseifersdorf and Eckartsberg. A detour to the fourth district,
Radgendorf, is worth it just because of the view.
